Her new husband, Calvin C. Chaffee, was an abolitionist, who shortly after their marriage was elected to the U.S. Congress.

Harriet Scott was long thought to be buried near her husband, but in 2006 it was proven that she was buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Hillsdale, Missouri.
