In 1973, the Chicago Park District donated the usage of a park administration building in Washington Park as the site for the museum.
She was also on the founding board of directors for the DuSable Museum of African American History.
Margaret and her husband Charles co-founded what is now called the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago in 1961.
