Later that month, as spokesman for the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States Ministers at the EU-ACP ministerial meeting in Bonn, Aliyu Modibbo stated that the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA) should be implemented carefully to avoid negative impact, especially on countries in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region.
Mr. Konneh is also the Chairman of the Mano River Union (MRU) Ministerial Council, the Vice Chairperson of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Africa Group 1 Constituency and is the coordinator of all the Economic Community of West African States' (ECOWAS) activities in Liberia.
The Second Liberian Civil War began in 1999 and ended in October 2003, when ECOWAS intervened to stop the rebel siege on Monrovia and exiled Charles Taylor to Nigeria until he was arrested in 2006 and taken to The Hague for his trial.
Liberia is a founding member of the United Nations (see Permanent Representative of Liberia to the United Nations) and its specialized agencies and is a member of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), African Development Bank (ADB), Mano River Union (MRU) and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Cooperates with the African Union (AU), the African Development Bank (AfDB), ECOWAS, the Southern African Defence and Security Management Network (SADSEM), the African Security Sector Network (ASSN), and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).
Abubakar also commanded a battalion of African peacekeepers in Chad during the early 1980s as part of the Organisation of African Unity's force and was military liaison officer for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in the mid 1990s.
The resolution concluded by directing the Committee to improve contacts with ECOWAS, the Organisation of African Unity and international organisations such as Interpol with a view to publicising its findings through appropriate media.
It welcomed the launch of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme on 1 January 2003 and the efforts of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and International Contact Group on Liberia to bring about peace and stability in the region, particularly the appointment of Nigerian President Atiku Abubakar as mediator in Liberia.
