Mellerstain House

George was the second son of Charles, Lord Binning (1697-1732), heir to the 6th Earl of Haddington, and he inherited the Mellerstain estate when his aunt Grisell, Lady Murray died in 1759.


Hamilton Point

It was discovered by a British expedition under James Clark Ross, 1839–43, who named it "Cape Hamilton" after Captain William Baillie-Hamilton, Royal Navy, then private secretary to the Earl of Haddington, and later Second Secretary to the Admiralty.
