The band was formed in East Greenwich, Rhode Island by John Barber, Alex Major, and Ryan Gildea while attending East Greenwich High School.
He spent part of his childhood living in Ohio and later lived in East Greenwich, Rhode Island for three years of high school (10th, 11th, and 12th grade).

A Huguenot from Caude, near Angers, France, who settled in East Greenwich, Rhode Island in 1686 and moved to Providence in 1696; the Shunned House was built on the site of his family's graveyard.
