Army of the Evros

Hostilities between Greece and Turkey ceased with the Armistice of Mudanya, but the Armistice obliged the Greek army to evacuate Eastern Thrace (awarded to Greece with the Treaty of Sevres in 1920) and withdraw behind the Evros river.

Atolovo

The village, intended for ethnic Bulgarian refugees from Greek Macedonia and Eastern Thrace, was officially established in 1926 with the support of the British organization Save the Children and the financial aid of the 8th Duke of Atholl.

Lozenets, Burgas Province

Lozenets was founded in 1924 by around 20 Bulgarian refugee families, originally from Eastern Thrace (mostly Peneka and Malak Samokov) who were initially put up in Poturnak (Velika), but moved to the seaside in search of better conditions.

Sofia Vembo

She was born in Gallipoli, Eastern Thrace, in 1910, but after the Asia Minor Catastrophe her family moved to Tsaritsani in Greece, where her father became a tobacco worker, and later to Volos.
