Ancient Teachings of the Masters (also called ATOM) is the name Darwin Gross used to carry on the original teachings of Paul Twitchell after his termination from Eckankar.
Linguistically, however, "Eckankar" derives from Ekankār or Ik Oankār (Punjabi Eka Omkāra), a name for God given by Guru Nānak and the very first word of the Mūl Mantra (recited everyday by Sikhs), the Japjī Sahib, and the Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh holy scriptures).
In 1976 the property was transferred to Eckankar, a new religious movement that Helen Frye belonged to, who planned a private retreat for their members.

In 1981, he named Harold Klemp to take that position, continuing to function as the president of the Eckankar Corporation himself.
Afterwards, he completed a two-year tour at Misawa Air Base and later at Yokota Air Base in Japan, where he was first exposed to the teachings of Eckankar.
On his return to comics, the Philippine government commissioned him to do some murals, which he adapted from one of Paul Twitchell's books on Eckankar.
The gist of Lane's criticism of Hinkins is that he uses spiritual teachings taken from Paul Twitchell's Eckankar, who in turn took them from Radha Soami Satsang Beas, with which Lane is actively involved.
