Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford

and his candidacy was featured in the 2011 Hollywood film Anonymous in which he was played by Rhys Ifans.

While living at the Cecil House, Edward's daily studies consisted of dancing instruction, French, Latin, cosmography, writing exercises, drawing, and common prayers.


Castle Camps

The castle remained in the de Vere family until 1584 when it was sold by Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, to Thomas Skinner (d.1596), Lord Mayor of London.

Charles Arundell

With their cousin Lord Henry Howard (later created Earl of Northampton), he was briefly imprisoned in the Tower of London at Christmas 1580, after both had been denounced by Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, as traitors and spies of Philip II of Spain.

Lady Susan was born on 26 May 1587, the youngest daughter of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford and Anne Cecil, the daughter of statesman William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, Queen Elizabeth's chief advisor and leading member of her Privy Council.
