Leggatt's television credits include the 1975 mini-series Edward the Seventh, in which she portrayed the Duchess of Kent.
Her notable roles include Sara Crewe, the central character in A Little Princess, and Princess Helena of the United Kingdom in Edward the Seventh.
She also played Princess Alice in Edward the Seventh, and her mother Queen Victoria in a 1976 television adaptation of East Lynne, and other plays and comedies.
Carvalho was educated in France from 1911 to 1914, and then in Newcastle-upon-Tyne until 1922, attending the King Edward the Seventh School of Fine Arts and Durham University's Armstrong College.
