Up to the present the Swahili form afande is a way to address officers in the armies of Kenya,Tanzania and recently in Rwanda with the coming to power of RPF.
Sheikh Abu Bakr Effendi (1814–1880) was an Osmanli qadi who was sent in 1862 by the Ottoman sultan Abdülmecid I at the request of the British Queen Victoria to the Cape of Good Hope, in order to teach and assist the Muslim community of the Cape Malays.
Part of this combination was a court case raised by Qamar Bahá'í, Jalal the grandson of Mírzá Músá and others in about 1950-1, challenging Shoghi Effendi's right to carry out major construction work around the Shrine of Bahá'u'lláh.
