Eisteddfod

The 2011 West Coast Eisteddfod: Welsh Festival of Arts in Los Angeles was sponsored by the Meriwether Lewis Memorial Eisteddfod Foundation in association with AmeriCymru, Welsh American social network, and A Raven Above Press, Welsh-American owned and operated small press.

An "International Eisteddfod" was held on July 28, 1915, in San Francisco, California, at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition which drew competing choruses from around the nation, including one mixed group composed of the German members of the Metropolitan Opera Chorus from New York.

Many other communities host smaller eisteddfods, including Alice Springs, Darwin and Melbourne.

Evan Evans (Ieuan Glan Geirionydd) wins the chair at an eisteddfod in St Asaph.

Albert Evans-Jones

He was commissioned to write an exemplary play for the National Eisteddfod in 1957 – his offering Absolom Fy Mab was accepted to great critical acclaim in Welsh dramatic circles as were his translations of English Language plays John Masefield's Good Friday and Norman Nicholson's The Old Man of the Mountain.

Bordertown High School

On 26 September 2008, in the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, eight schools participated in the big Rock Eisteddfod Grand Final.

Bradford Girls' Choir

The girls have performed twice at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, finishing 5th in 2009 as the highest-placed UK choir.

Festivals celebrating the culture of the Celtic nations include the Festival Interceltique de Lorient (Brittany), the Pan Celtic Festival (Ireland), CeltFest Cuba (Havana, Cuba), the National Celtic Festival (Portarlington, Australia), the Celtic Media Festival (showcasing film and television from the Celtic nations), and the Eisteddfod (Wales).

At Bettws High School in Newport, Hannam won the 1992 Eisteddfod keyboard solo competition with a rendition of 2 Unlimited's European hit 'No Limits'.

Other notable members include the poet and musician, Twm Morys (who won the chair at the 2003 national eisteddfod), Dr Simon Brooks, former editor of the Welsh language current affairs magazine Barn, Judith Humphreys, a Welsh actress and Dr Jerry Hunter, an American Harvard graduate who moved to Wales to learn Welsh and has remained in Wales ever since, working in academic posts at the University of Wales.

Elfed Lewys

His father was the Reverend Morley Lewis, and his grandfather on his father's side was John Lewis, a tailor in Blaenycoed who became a singer of note, a precentor and adjudicator of local eisteddfodau and choir conductor.

George Vern Barnett

Barnett died suddenly on 15 April 1946 in Goulburn, New South Wales, where he had just completed adjudicating at the Goulburn Eisteddfod.

Patsy Biscoe

She won a classical singing scholarship after making an unscheduled appearance at the St Mary's College annual eisteddfod.
