ODECO rigs continued to rack up “firsts” in the industry in the 1970s, with Ocean Viking discovering the giant Ekofisk Field for Phillips Petroleum in the North Sea, and Ocean Victory discovering the Piper and Claymore fields, also in the North Sea, for Occidental Petroleum.
As Minister of Foreign Affairs Hækkerup is mostly remembered because of the agreement he made with the Norwegian Minister Jens Evensen that gave Norway the oil rich Ekofisk oil field in the North Sea.
From 1966 it was taken into use by Helikopter Service, who operated their offshore helicopter services out of Forus to the Ekofisk and Frigg platforms in the North Sea.
