Songs were recorded with Steve Albini at his studio Electrical Audio, Danny Schaffer at 4040 studios, dave hutten at Red Squared Studios, and at the home studio of Daniel Pritzker a founding member of local resident and philanthropist Sonia Dada.
It is a compilation of tracks from four different recording sessions, including recordings at Electrical Audio in Chicago, engineered by Steve Albini, Sound of Music Studio in Richmond, Virginia, produced by David Lowery, and Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, engineered by James Lott.
It was recorded in three different locations by multiple engineers; the title track was recorded at The Fortress Studios, London with producer Gareth Parton (The Go! Team, Foals); "The Last Time", which features lead vocals by Mark Lanegan, and "Pinnacle Hollow" were recorded by Ben Mumphrey in Dayton, OH; "Chances Are", a cover of a Bob Marley song, was recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago.
