2 unusual facts about Electrochemistry

Asian Conference on Electrochemical Power Sources

ACEPS is the Asian Conference on Electrochemical Power Sources which is a series of scientific electrochemical power sources conferences held in South Asia at different locations.

ACEPS promotes collaboration and co-operation between Asian scientists in the fields of fuel cells, storage batteries, super capacitors and electrochemical science.

Aaron Katz

Aharon Katzir (1914–1972), Israeli pioneer in the study of the electrochemistry of biopolymers

Contact potential

Galvani potential difference (in electrochemistry, at a junction of two metals)

Volta potential difference (in electrochemistry, between two points in vacuum near surfaces of two metals in contact)

Davy Medal

The medal was most recently awarded to Fraser Armstrong "for his pioneering protein film electrochemistry allowing exquisite thermodynamic and kinetic control of redox enzymes, exemplified by hydrogenases, key in energy technology.".

Herbert Kalmus

He earned his doctorate at the University of Zurich, then taught physics, electrochemistry and metallurgy at MIT and at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Jean-Michel Savéant

Jean-Michel Savéant (born September 19, 1933 in Rennes) is a French chemist specialized in electrochemistry.

Luigi Galvani Medal

Named after pioneering Italian physicist Luigi Galvani, the prize was established in 1986 to recognize the work of foreign scientists in the field of electrochemistry.

Nanobatteries

"Liquid electrolyte is unstable in the presence of metallic lithium and will cause all sorts of problems. That is why it is imperative to observe the slow-charging rate rule with lithium-ion batteries," Donald Sadoway, MIT professor of materials chemistry and an electrochemistry researcher, explained to TechNewsWorld.

Paul Felix Schmidt

After this, he and his wife Eva moved to Bell Telephone Laboratories, Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he made contributions to electrochemistry and anodic oxidation of silicon, was expert in neutron activation analysis, and published many papers, till his retirement in 1982.

Paul Ludwig Simon

Beside these fields of activity Simon did – at that time in Europe well known – research work in the field of Electrochemistry and Galvanism.

Photoelectrochemistry

One of the pioneers of this field of electrochemistry was the German electrochemist Heinz Gerischer.

Samuel Ruben

Samuel Ruben (14 July 1900 - 16 July 1988) was an American inventor who made lasting contributions to electrochemistry and solid-state technology, including the founding of Duracell.

The Society for Electroanalytical Chemistry

given annually at Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopyto recognize the awardee's significant contributions to electrochemistry.
