A collection of her portraits, Photographing the Famous, was published in 1928, and included such luminaries as William Butler Yeats, Julia Ward Howe, Henry James, Walter de la Mare, G. K. Chesterton, Maxim Gorky, John Burroughs, Ruth St. Denis, Eleonora Duse and Yvette Guilbert.

Eleonora Duse

In 1896, Duse completed a triumphant tour of the United States; in Washington President Grover Cleveland and his wife attended every performance.

In 1909 Duse retired from acting, and near to that same time she met and became involved in a lesbian affair with Italian feminist Lina Poletti, a former lover of writer Sibilla Aleramo.

She is buried in Asolo – where she had made her home for the last four years of her life – at the cemetery of Sant' Anna.


Arrigo Minerbi

Minerbi was the favourite artist of Gabriele D'Annunzio, for whom he produced "Luisa", a portrait of D'Annunzio's mother (as well as the tomb in the Chiesa di San Cetteo at Pescara, now Pescara Cathedral) and the bust of Eleonora Duse: both these portrait busts were exhibited at the Vittoriale degli Italiani of Gardone Riviera.

In 1895 her performances in Pinero's Bygones and Charles Reade's The Lyons Mail respectively were praised by George Bernard Shaw and Eleonora Duse.

Grazia Deledda

Cenere was the inspiration for a movie with the famous Italian actress Eleonora Duse.
