Many literary and public figures of Lebanon and the Levant were educated in its schools, such as the poet, May Ziade, the journalist and owner of An-Nahar newspaper, the father of the late Gibran Tueni and former Lebanese ambassador Ghassan Tueni, the politicians Kamal Jumblatt and Maurice Gemayel, and former Lebanese presidents Suleiman Franjieh, René Mouawad, Elias Sarkis.
From 1980 to 1982, he served in the cabinet as minister of public works under President Elias Sarkis and Prime Minister Shafik Wazzan.
He was appointed minister of labor and social affairs in the government led by then prime minister Selim Hoss under then president Elias Sarkis from 16 July 1979 to 25 October 1980.
On 25 October 1980, Moawad returned to the Cabinet as Minister of National Education and Fine Arts, in the government of President Elias Sarkis (who had succeeded Frangieh in 1976) and Prime Minister Shafik Wazzan, a position he held until the expiry of Sarkis's term on 24 September 1982.
