Sent to trainer Mark Walker of Te Akau Racing Stables near Matamata for his early education, Darci Brahma quickly established a reputation as a potential star in the making winning his first race (January 2005) on debut, following that up with a strong win in the Listed Ford Fairview Slipper Stakes at Matamata in February and then running 2nd to Mi Jubilee in the Group One Ellerslie Sires Produce Stakes at Ellerslie in March.
Tom Conroy (Ponsonby) won the Lipscombe Cup, Don Mann (Ponsonby) won the Rothville Trophy, Lyndsay Proctor (Ellerslie) and Dave Sorenson (Mt Wellington) won the Bert Humphries Memorial, Ashley McEwen (Mt Albert) won the Tetley Trophy, Ernie Wiggs (Mt Albert) won the Painter Rosebowl Trophy and Roger Bailey (Ponsonby) won the Hyland Memorial Cup.

Retired after his four-year-old racing season, Princequillo was purchased by Arthur B. Hancock and sent to the Hancock family's Ellerslie Stud in Albemarle County, Virginia and later to their Claiborne Farm near Paris, Kentucky.
He followed that win up with the Group 2 Counties Cup, a desperately close second under a demanding weight in the Group 2 Waikato Cup and a well-deserved second Group 1 victory in the Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie, just over two full years after his last Group 1 win.
