In June 1367 Donald Bannerman was granted the lands of Clyntrees, Waterton and Weltown in the parish of Ellon, Aberdeenshire from David II of Scotland.

The Times covers a range of local news and sport, with a coverage area which includes Ellon and the surrounding villages of Auchnagatt, Balmedie, Collieston, Cruden Bay, Methlick, Newburgh, Pitmedden, Tarves and Udny Green.
They are based in The Meadows Sports Centre in Ellon along with Ellon RFC and local football sides.
After completing his education at the parish schools of Cruden and Ellon, he entered, at age fifteen, the Jesuit college at Braunsberg, East Prussia (then belonging to Poland); however, his character did not tolerate well the strict and somber way of life at the school, and soon decided to return home.
