Christopher Hussey

Hussey's series of monographs on selected houses and a series The Colleges of Oxford and Cambridge collected material drawn from his Country Life articles, offered in more permanent format: Petworth House, Clarence House, London, Ely House, London, Berkeley Castle, Eton College, Shugborough were all given the Hussey treatment, and they demonstrate the range of his competence.

Edmund Keene

On 22 March 1752 he was consecrated in the chapel of Ely House as bishop of Chester, but he did not resign the mastership of his college until 1754.

John Eedes

He afterwards 'became a minister in the isle of Shepie, whence being ejected in the time of the rebellion suffer'd much by imprisonment in Ely House, and other miseries'.

Joseph Beaumont

The wealthy ward of the bishop, a Miss Brownrigg, fell in love with him, and they were married from Ely House in 1650.

Thomas Farnaby

He was placed on board ship with a view to his transportation to America, but was ultimately sent to Ely House, Holborn, where he was detained for a year.


Thomas Dampier

He died suddenly on the evening of 13 May 1812 at Ely House in London.
