Collectively they are known as the Chocó and belong to two major groups: the Embirá, of upper Atrato and San Juan Rivers, and the Wuanana of the lower San Juan River.
His first large success was the 1950 film Gjensyn med jungelfolket, about the Chocó people in Panama.
The indigenous communities were made by peoples of the Emberá and Katio nations.
