On September 15, 1917, the Reverend Angus Dun and the Reverend Dr. Endicott Peabody, headmaster at Groton School, conducted the first services, sponsored by the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), for the newly arrived men.
Notable skiers during this time included former Massachusetts Governor Endicott Peabody and Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy.
Doherty also worked as a campaign coordinator for United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy and Massachusetts Governor Endicott Peabody.
