Sacheverell riots

The Sacheverell and Rebellion riots are regarded as the most serious instances of public disorder of the eighteenth century, until, perhaps, the anti-Catholic protests of 1780.

The Sacheverell riots and further disturbances in 1714 and 1715, led to the passing of the Riot Act.


Muhammad al-Yaqoubi

On August 18, 2011, al-Yaqoubi led prayers from a stage in Summerfield Park, Winson Green, Birmingham to some 20,000 people who gathered to remember three men killed while attempting to protect their neighbourhood from rioters and looters during the England riots.
