Perinçek was detained for suspected links to the shadow organization Ergenekon on August 19, 2011 and formally arrested during the early hours of August 22, 2011 by a ruling made by Istanbul's 12th High Criminal Court.
Ergenekon rejects these allegations and says his name (chosen for the Ergenekon myth) has been besmirched by traitors.
In February 2011 odatv's offices were raided and some of its staff arrested (including owner Soner Yalçın and executive editor Barış Pehlivan as well as news co-ordinator Doğan Yurdakul, journalist Barış Terkoğlu and others) and accused of links with the Ergenekon organization.
There are allegations that the public protests were orchestrated by a clandestine illegal organization named Ergenekon.
