3 unusual facts about Erwitte


Gölsdorf axle

One of the first companies in Germany to introduce Gölsdorf axles was the privately run Westphalian State Railway (Westfälische Landeseisenbahn), whose heavy goods trains between Belecke and Erwitte needed powerful, but nevertheless agile, locomotives in order to cross the Haarstrang hills.

Hanxleden

Wigand von Hanxleden (about 1440-1501) was Lord (Herr) of Kallenhardt, Drost of Erwitte and on the Electorate of Cologne in 1483.

Neubeckum station

The line is still used for the operation of steam-hauled museum trains from Münster via Neubeckum to Lippstadt, Erwitte, Anröchte and Warstein.
