Pendatchanska performed the title role of Esclarmonde at Teatro Regio in Turin in November 1992 at the age of 22, at which time she was even younger than that of Sybil Sanderson, who created the infamously difficult role at age 24.
His Metropolitan Opera debut took place two years later when he created the role of Emperor Phorcas in the Met's premiere of Massenet's Esclarmonde.
In the 19th century the original story of Parthénopéus de Blois served as a broad basis for Alfred Blau's libretto Esclarmonde, later turned into an opera by Jules Massenet.
Since then, she has undertaken various roles on stage or in the concert hall, developing her vocal and artistic personality in such roles as: Michaëla (Carmen), Esclarmonde (Esclarmonde), Violetta (La traviata), Mimi (La bohème), and also in Mozart operas (as Donna Anna, Fiordiligi, and the Countess).
He was capable to conduct without any preparation such difficult operas as Esclarmonde, Mlada, and Falstaff and that his very ability was the reason for hiring him as the second conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre (where Russian premieres of those works took place).
She made her formal Metropolitan Opera debut on November 28, 1973, as Nicklausse in Les contes d'Hoffmann (with Plácido Domingo in the name part), and later sang Dorabella in Così fan tutte (1975–76), Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro (opposite Justino Díaz and Judith Blegen, 1976) and Parséïs in Esclarmonde (opposite Sutherland, 1976).
