Eugene Semmes Ives (November 11, 1859 Washington, D.C. – August 25, 1917 Mist, Madera County, California) was an American lawyer and politician from New York and Arizona.
After the war, Quayle married Corinne Pulliam, the daughter of wealthy newspaper publisher Eugene C. Pulliam, at Indiana University.
The species name, S. gaffneyi was named in honor of Eugene S. Gaffney, a paleontologist who specialized in turtle phylogeny.
