Evaporators are usually of the shell-and-tube type (known as an Atlas Plant) or of the plate type (such as the type designed by Alfa Laval).
It has U.S. manufacturing facilities in Indianapolis, Indiana for residential and commercial furnaces and air handlers, Collierville, Tennessee for residential condensing units and heat pumps, Tyler, Texas for residential package units and commercial condensing and package units, Mexico for evaporator coils, and Charlotte, North Carolina for accessories and chillers.
The largest single body MVR evaporator built (1968, by Whiting Co., later Swenson Evaporator Co., Harvey, Ill. in Cirò Marina, Italy) was a salt crystallizer, evaporating approximately 400 metric tons per hour of water, featuring an axial-flow compressor (Brown Boveri, later ABB).
