In 2005, James became a Research and Development Fellow at the Eyebeam OpenLab where he began collaborating with Evan Roth.
As part of a Free Art and Technology Lab exhibition at Eyebeam, In 2013 the artist executed a wild posting campaign in New York City featuring an image of Mark Zuckerberg, photoshopped with a black eye, around New York City.
Selbo has created sites and web works for clients such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA), the Walker Art Center, Cal Art's Center for Integrated Media, the Visual Arts Department at the University of California, San Diego, PBS/POV, Visual Understanding in Education, and Eyebeam, among others.
