2 unusual facts about FMV

Hot Wheels Velocity X

One review by Chris Roper gave it a 4.7 out of 10, criticizing the game's sound design, controls, and the unstable framerate, but praising the multiplayer mode of the GameCube version and the voice overs during the FMV cutscenes.

Cinepak

This permitted implementation on relatively slow CPUs (video encoded in Cinepak will usually play fine even on a 25 MHz Motorola 68030, consoles like the Sega CD usually used even slower CPUs, e.g. a 12.5 MHz 68000), but tended to result in blocky artifacting at low bitrates, which explained the criticism levelled at the FMV-based video games.

Counter-IED equipment

Counter-IED Reconnaissance Planes: The U.S. Army’s Task Force ODIN-E flies manned reconnaissance aircraft that use an array of full-motion video (FMV), electro-optical (EO), infra-red (IR), and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery sensors to find IEDs.

Digital Pictures

Although the film boasted stars such as Yasmine Bleeth and Walter Koenig, they only appear in the segments that had been pulled from the FMV sequences of the game, which suffer from lower image quality than the original footage.

Digital Pinball: Necronomicon

John Petrucci, guitarist for Dream Theater, contributed music to the game's score by composing the prologue and epilogue FMV music.

Toonstruck

Toonstruck also features scan-line compressed FMV and was also one of the first video games to include stock music from APM Music, notably the classic "Spooky Scherzo" by Sam Fonteyn.

Zelda's Adventure

In 1989, Nintendo signed a deal with Sony to begin development of a CD-ROM-based system known as the "Nintendo PlayStation" or the SNES CD to be an add-on to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System that would allow for FMV and larger games.
