She conducted field research in east central Java, Indonesia from 1952 to 1954, joining in the Modjokuto Project with Harvard University Ph.D. candidates Clifford Geertz, Hildred Geertz, Robert Jay, Donald Fagg, and Edward Ryan.
Fagg, the son of former President of the University of Southern California Fred D. Fagg, Jr., joined the law school in 1970 and served as dean from 1973 to 1982.
