The municipality of Farsund has 9,433 inhabitants (2012), concentrated in three centres of population: Farsund town (pop 3198), Vanse (pop 1901), and Vestbygda (pop 1087).

Stensland was born in Farsund in the south of Norway and grew up at nearby Lyngdal showing her talent for football at an early age.
He returned to Norway, and after slowly accumulating enough fuel, made his way to the United Kingdom on the boat Viking from Rauna, near Farsund, together with two other men.
He served as parish priest in Farsund from 1996 to 2012; between 2010 to 2012 he also worked as a hospital pastor at the Flekkefjord department of the Hospital of Southern Norway.
