Prominent female writers at the time included the likes of Iman Asiri, Fatima al-Taytun, Fathiya 'Ajlan, Hamda Khamis and Fawziyya al-Sindi.
The village was targeted again during the first Kurdish rebellion by the Sindi Kurdish tribe first and later by the Iraqi Army, this forced the inhabitants to seek refuge in Khanik, another Assyrian village across the border in Syria, until 1975.
In Pärnu county there is the oldest known human settlement in Estonia, from town of Sindi 2 km upstream by Pärnu River, near village Pulli.
Sindi then returned to school after four years of being with Mbongeni Ngema's committed artists.
