Featherstone

The town's sport scene is dominated by its local rugby league club, Featherstone Rovers, who have won the Challenge Cup on three occasions, most recently on 7 May 1983, and won the League Championship in 1976–77.

They reached the Championship Grand Final by beating Halifax 46-16 in the Semi-Final, only to be defeated by Halifax in the final on a golden point (22–23).

John Hardhead

In June 1411, along with others including John Mynors (MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme and Staffordshire), Hardhead was arrested for a murder in Featherstone, Staffordshire and armed assaults against many people in Wolverhampton.


Britton Bath Osler

His father, Featherstone Lake Osler (1805-1895), the son of a shipowner at Falmouth, Cornwall, was a former Lieutenant in the Royal Navy and served on H.M.S. Victory.

Charles Annable

Charlie Annable broke his Clavicle in November 1927 which kept him out of Featherstone Rovers' run to the 1927–28 Rugby Football League Championship final, in 1931 he was sold to Castleford for £400 (based on increases in average earnings, this would be approximately £78,300 in 2009).

David Cunliffe-Lister, 2nd Earl of Swinton
