2 unusual facts about Felsted School


Richard Rich, 1st Baron Rich

The founder of Felsted School with its associated alms houses in Essex in 1564, he was also a persecutor and torturer of Protestants.

These donations were transferred in 1564 to the foundation of Felsted School for instruction, primarily for children born on the founder's manors, in Latin, Greek and divinity.


Anthony R. Hunter

Anthony R. Hunter was born in 1943 in the United Kingdom and educated at Felsted, prior to Christ's College at Cambridge University.

Edgar Allison Peers

Obtaining a teacher's diploma (first class with double distinction) from Cambridge in 1913, Peers taught modern languages at Mill Hill School, Felsted School, Essex and then at Wellington College.

Oliver Everett

Everett was educated at St Aubyn's Preparatory School Woodford Green Essex having been Captain of the 1st XVFelsted, the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio and at Christ's CollegeCambridge, and he has a masters degree in international relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and did post-graduate work in international relations at the London School of Economics.

Robert Drayson

After the War he returned to Cambridge, graduated, and taught at St. Lawrence College and Felsted, then was head master of Reed's School and Stowe before becoming lay chaplain to the Bishop of Norwich.

Simon Lythgoe

Simon Lythgoe, educated at Felsted, was a chief lighting technician for The Lord of the Rings films, and is a producer of American Idol.
