General Berthelot

In 1923 and again in 2001, the commune was named after Henri Mathias Berthelot - who was rewarded by King Ferdinand for his role during World War I with properties in the village confiscated from the Franz Nopcsa von Felső-Szilvás family.

Grateful for the French army's contribution to the liberation of Romania, and in particular, Berthelot's role during the World War I Romanian campaign, the Romanian Parliament awarded him honorary citizenship of Romania and King Ferdinand rewarded the general with lands located in the Transylvanian village of Fărcădin, confiscated from the Franz Nopcsa von Felső-Szilvás family.

Line of succession to the former Romanian throne

Prince Wilhelm, along with his father, Prince Leopold, renounced his rights to the Romanian throne in favor of his younger brother, the future king Ferdinand of Romania.
