Fighting McCooks

Robert Latimer McCook (1827–1862), Brigadier General, killed by one of John Hunt Morgan's cavalrymen near Salem, Alabama, as he laid in an ambulance after a previous injury.

Yet another brother, Dr. George McCook (1795-1873), and his son Dr. George Latimer McCook (1824-1874) served as unpaid surgeons during the Civil War, the latter serving under George B. McClellan during the Peninsula Campaign.

Hugh Knox

In December 1911, Knox was married at New York's Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church Katherine McCook, the daughter of Anson G. McCook, a member of the "Fighting McCooks," one of the most prolific military families during the American Civil War.
