The winners of the competition were The Brothers Lynch (Keith and David Lynch), whose reimagining was based on the 2006 film This Is England by Shane Meadows.

The film was a result of a collaborative effort from Myspace, Vertigo films and Film4.

In 2007, a version was released by Photoplay Productions and George Eastman House, in association with the Cecil B. DeMille Foundation and Film4, restored from deMille's own nitrate print, with a new music score by Carl Davis.
A review for Film4 has described Zelly and Me as unsure of its own narrative and tone, describing it as "a little uneven, but nevertheless well worth a look".
