4 unusual facts about First Age

Belegaer

Before the ruin of Beleriand at the end of the First Age, the sea was narrow and ice-filled in the north, forming the strait of Helcaraxë, the Grinding Ice.

First Age

The greater number is supported by the Appendices to The Lord of the Rings and later writings, the lesser by earlier writings.

Versions of these stories were later published in The Silmarillion, and tales from this period lend a deep sense of time and history to the later period in which the action of The Lord of the Rings takes place.

These centred around a series of wars waged by the Sindar, the Noldor and the Three Houses of the Edain against the armies of Angband and the evil Men from the East.

Adûnaic

Adûnaic derived from the closely related Bëorian and Hadorian dialects of Taliska, the language spoken by the first and third houses of the Edain when they first entered Beleriand during the First Age (the language(s) of the second house, the Haladin, seems to have had little or no influence on Adûnaic whatsoever, despite the apparent presence of both the Haladin and the Drúedain in Númenor prior to its downfall).

Beleg

In the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, Beleg is a major character who appears in numerous books, tales and poems about the First Age of Middle-earth such as The Silmarillion, The Lays of Beleriand and the Children of Húrin.

Fëa and hröa

Glorfindel died in battle during the First Age, and is the only Elf known to have returned to Middle-earth (probably around 1600 Second Age).

Finduilas of Dol Amroth

Named after Finduilas, an Elf-maiden of the First Age, Finduilas of Dol Amroth (2950–2988) was the daughter of Prince Adrahil II, and had an older sister Ivriniel in addition to her brother Imrahil.

Glorfindel

He is introduced in various material relating to the First Age of Middle-earth, including The Silmarillion.

Second Age

The 3441 years of the Second Age are, for the most part, unchronicled, unlike the First Age which is largely recounted in The Silmarillion, and the Third Age, which is the time period during which The Lord of the Rings is set.

The Road Goes Ever On

Prior to the publication of The Silmarillion, this introduction was the only publicly available source for certain information about the First Age of Middle-earth.
