It grows as a tall shrub or small tree, up to 2-6 m high and 2-4 m wide, in coastal areas of South Australia and Victoria, as well as on Tasmania’s Flinders Island and possibly other islands in Bass Strait.
Fox Moth VH-UQM Miss Currie was purchased by Victor Holyman for £1,450 and began operating over the 108-mile route over south-eastern Bass Strait between Launceston, Tasmania and Whitemark on Flinders Island in October 1932.
The largest council (by number of enrolled electors) is City of Launceston and the smallest council is Municipality of Flinders (which serves the Flinders Island and surrounding islands, and has just over 800 electors)
He farmed at Flinders Island from 1918 to 1928, running Red Poll and Corriedale cattle and sheep studs, and serving as chairman of the Flinders Island Butter Factory Company, as a member of the local licensing court, and as a Flinders Island Council councillor for seven years, including a stint as shire warden.
For the nominate subspecies A. m. minimus, the range is Tasmania, including Sunday Island King Island and Flinders Island.

Their distribution extends to coastal streams in southeastern Australia from Adelaide and Kangaroo Island in South Australia, through coastal Victoria including Wilsons Promontory, Tasmania, Flinders and King Islands and up the New South Wales coast to around Sydney, as well as New Zealand including the Chatham, Auckland and Campbell Islands.
