This 1881 Congress, the first ever held, 16 years before the World Zionist Organization's First Zionist (held in Basel), had a major influence on the Romanian Jews, and its proceedings also became known outside the borders of Romania.
Focşani, a city 100 miles northeast of Bucharest and the epicentre of the quake, was reported in ruins; Galați, the site of the German submarine base, also suffered severely; and Giurgiu, the principal oil port on the Danube, saw public buildings and factories completely destroyed.
In Romania, six post offices possessed a Daguin machine between 1890 and 1904: Brăila, Bucharest, Focşani, Galaţi, Iaşi and Ploieşti.
These were initially deployed on the Siret Line at Focşani (15 batteries, with 6 turrets each), Nămoloasa (24 bateries of 3-5 turrets), Galati (30 batteries of 6 turrets and 10 bateries of 3 turrets) and Brateş (10 turrets).
Florin Fântânaru (born on the 4th of April 1987, Focsani (Vrancea), Romania) is a Romanian rugby union footballer.
