Cosmo Tamburro Senior, the Chairman and Founder of the company, had a humble post war upbringing in Formia, a small town on the west coast of Italy situated between Rome and Naples, becoming a chef at one of his hometown’s renowned hotels for wealthy holidaying Italians.
His other son Leo received the Church of San Erasmo at Formia from John II and Docibilis left many daughters besides Maria: Anna, Gemma, Drosu, and Megalu.
The name also refers to the salad produced in two municipalities in the province of Latina, Formia and Gaeta.

Recent projects include the Toupary restaurant on the fifth-floor of the historic Samaritaine department store and the Hermes Museum in Tokyo, which he conceived for the new Renzo Piano building in the famed Ginza shopping district and a collection of limited series and unique pieces for Formia International in Murano Glass.
