The school was named for Fred M. Lynn (no relation to Fred Lynn the baseball player).
Former Boston Red Sox stars Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, and Butch Hobson honed their skills while members of the "BriSox." The ballpark also housed the old Bristol Owls of the Class-B Colonial League in 1949 and 1950, as well as various amateur baseball teams, notably the Bristol En-Dees and the local American Legion team.

In his 43-year tenure with the Red Sox organization, Kenney contributed to develop a significant number of outstanding players such as Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Dwight Evans, Carlton Fisk, Bruce Hurst, Fred Lynn and Jim Rice.
Following his retirement, Stephenson gained most of his fame as a scout for the Boston Red Sox based in Orange County, California, signing future All-Stars Rick Burleson, Dwight Evans, Bill Lee and Fred Lynn, while working exclusively for the organization.
Fred Lynn Lowery (born March 16, 1943) is the retired former senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bossier City in northwestern Louisiana, whose Sunday sermons under the title The First Word were broadcast between 1983 and 2013 on KTBS-TV, the ABC affiliate in Shreveport, and on several cable television outlets.
