Fortification Upgrades

During the summer of 1675, 1800 men were kept at work on the fortresses at Akershus, Fredrikstad, and Fredrikshald.

Fredriksten

At the outbreak of the Gyldenløve War in 1675 a large contingent (4000 men) were concentrated at Fredrikshald under General Russenstein.

Karl Henry Karlsen

Born in Fredrikshald, Karlsen was a member of the executive committee of Tune municipal council between 1925 and 1937, and served as mayor from 1937 to 1941 and 1945 to 1971.

Mon Schjelderup

Maria Gustava Schjelderup was born in Fredrikshald (now Halden), Østfold, of parents Captain Christian Bernhard Koren Schjelderup (1819–1889) and Anne Sofie Preus Berg (1831–1898).
