Moravcsik received a BA in history from Stanford University in 1980 and, after a period working in the US and Asia, spent the next year and a half as a Fulbright Fellow at the Universities of Bielefeld, Hamburg, and Marburg in West Germany.
In a distinguished academic career in a field still heavily dominated by men, Semegen has received six grants from the National Endowment for the Arts; has been selected as a Fulbright fellow; and has been awarded fellowships at the MacDowell Colony, Tanglewood, the Chautauqua Institution, and Yaddo — among a range of other awards and distinctions.
In between, he spent 1952 as a research associate at the Reserve Bank of India as a Fulbright Fellow.
Rosenbaum earned a bachelor's degree at Washington University in St. Louis in 1968, and then studied the history of Nazi Germany as a Fulbright fellow in West Germany.

In 1949 he briefly served as an instructor at the University's Writer's Workshop before attending the Sorbonne in 1952 for a year as a Fulbright Fellow, studying comparative literature.
In the past, he has served as Fulbright Fellow in Nairobi, Kenya (1999-2000), teaching at Daystar University, and as a Bradley Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC (1989–90), and as the S. W. Brooks Memorial Professor of Literature at The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia (1988).
As a former Fulbright Fellow, he believed in Senator J. William Fulbright's idea of "waging peace through understanding".
