Fulco left Chanel in 1934 to venture to the United States with Baron Nicolas de Gunzburg and Princess Natalia Pavlovna Paley.

That year, he met Linda and Cole Porter – two of his biggest supporters and early backers – in Palermo.

James de Givenchy

Givenchy has been compared in the press to jewelry designers Fulco di Verdura (1898-1978) and Jean Schlumberger (1907-1987) since he is also a European jeweler established in America.
