In 1981 he starred in Funny Man (1981), a touching series about a family music hall act, written by Adele Rose and based on Jewel's father's company in the 1920s and 1930s.

His re-recording of "Funny Man" was included on his third album, Even Stevens (released in 1968), while the re-recordings of the last two songs were included on his fourth album, Gitarzan.
