After Eysteinn's death (1157) he composed the poem Elfarvísur for the nobleman Gregorius Dagsson, referring to his victory over Hákon herðibreiðr at Göta älv.

The city is located on the southern shores of lake Vänern, close to where the river Göta älv leaves the lake.
Harald then proclaimed himself the ruler of all land north of Göta älv and north and west of lake Vänern and placed Guttorm Haraldsson to defend the region with a large force.
