In 1977, the novel was made into a movie in West Germany as Aus einem deutschen Leben ("From a German life") with Götz George as Franz Lang (the name "Rudolf" was changed into Franz), directed by Theodor Kotulla.
She also starred as Dorothée in the Schulz & Schulz-movies next to Götz George and Martina Gedeck.
Wotan Wilke Möhring had his first screen appearance in the 1998 TV-movie Die Bubi-Scholz-Story, which also featured Benno Fürmann and Götz George.
