Gaede was born in Lanús, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, the third of four siblings of Gunther and Wiera Gaede.
Hans Emil Alexander Gaede (19 February 1852 in Kolberg – 16 September 1916 in Freiburg im Breisgau) was a Prussian officer, and later General of Infantry during World War I.
Gaede named this species after Miss Thomala, preparator at the Berlin Museum für Naturkunde who draw his attention on this species.
