In the 1990s and early 2000s a new railway station was proposed a short distance down the line across the viaduct at Gamesley, with funding in place at one point for the project to go forward after a feasibility study.
It was built about 108 AD in the reign of the Emperor Trajan and abandoned about 150–155 AD.
